WAGGY Website Awards

The WAGGY awards program was established to recognize and honor outstanding achievement in the Internet websites of the CWAG member Offices of the Attorneys General of the states and territories. The first awards were presented in 2000 and each year since at the annual summer conference. Twenty-seven state AGOs and one territory have won a WAGGY and twenty have been multiple award winners. Arizona has won Best Overall four times, Washington twice, and Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Massachusetts, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island and Utah has each won the highest prize once.

The winners are selected by a multi-state committee, open to any IT/web staff designated by AGO to participate, which reviews all member and associate member websites in the spring of each year and nominate and vote for the winner in each category. Committee members must abstain from nominating, discussing, and voting on their office’s AG website if it is being considered for an award. The criteria used to assess the websites focuses on site design, site content, and site purpose. Awards are given for excellence in various categories, including Best Redesign, Website Leadership, Consumer Services, Biggest Crime fighter, and Best Overall.

Winners receive an award suitable for viewing in their offices and an online award logo they can post on their websites. The committee also provides winners with the statement made at the ceremony so it can be referenced in a press announcement.

The WAGGY awards selection process is highly competitive and the announcement of the annual winners has become a highlight of the annual conference.
